70% of Americans Support Health Plans Covering Birth Control

The Los Angeles Times reports that nearly 70% of American are in favor of provisions of the Affordable Care Act requiring health insurance providers to include coverage for contraception. According to a research letter published in JAMA, of “2,124 adults surveyed in November 2013, 1,452 agreed that ‘health plans in the United States should be required to include coverage’ for ‘birth control medications.’ An additional 436 respondents (19%) did not agree, 197 (10%) were uncertain and 39 (2%) refused to answer.” The letter also reported that African Americans, Latinos, women, and parents with children under the age of 18 were more likely to support mandatory contraception coverage.
