3D-Printed Blood Vessels Help Surgeons Test-Run Their Procedures Before Operating

Biomedical engineers are developing 3D-printing technologies to help surgeons better prepare for complex procedures. Researchers are working on imaging and printing techniques that can create enlarged models of an individual patient’s blood vessels of the heart or brain. Once printed, the model provides a patient-specific simulated setting in which to plan and practice high-risk procedures.
