What’s new in nonopioid drugs and adjuvant analgesics?

Russell K. Portenoy, MD, Chairman, Department of Pain Medicine & Palliative Care at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, talks about the three, broad categories of pharmacotherapy in pain management – opioids, non-opioids, and non-traditional, or adjuvant, analgesics. The non-traditional class includes tricyclic antidepressants and serotonin/norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, as well as newer drugs including gabapentinoids and NMDA receptor blockers.
