Weight Loss Does Not Prevent CV Events in Type 2 Diabetes

A new study in The New England Journal of Medicine demonstrates that weight loss and exercise do not significantly decrease the risk of heart disease in people with type 2 diabetes. Researchers followed the health of 5145 overweight or obese people with type 2 diabetes who either made an “intensive lifestyle intervention” or did not, and found that the number of people who suffered cardiovascular events did not differ significantly between the groups.
