Treating Behavioral Problems With Art

According to Reuters, a study published in the journal The Arts in Psychotherapy has revealed that children who participated in a 10-week Art Room program presented with fewer behavioral problems and less depression. The program is geared towards helping to boost the self esteem of children who are having difficulties in school and may be at risk for exclusion from mainstream education. After surveying 169 students who participated in the program, researchers found an 18 percent drop in the number of children qualifying as depressed, a 41 percent decrease in emotional problems, and a 24 percent improvement in social behavior.
