The New Year often brings resolutions, including quitting smoking. Fifty years ago this month, the Surgeon General released the first report on smoking and health in the United States, warning of the harmful effects of cigarettes. A new study examined whether efforts to control cigarette smoking over that time period has helped to extend people’s lives and improve their health.
