This Will Make Your Heart Race

An article in the Huffington Post reports that according to a new study, “Caffeinated energy drinks can increase the heart’s contraction rates in healthy people.” The findings, presented at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America, “suggest people who have cardiac arrhythmia should avoid these drinks because arrhythmia could be triggered by changes to the heart’s contraction rates.” While the short-term effects have been studied, long-term energy drink consumption requires further investigation.
