Treating Sleep Apnea Can Alleviate Depression Symptoms

According to Reuters, a new study in PLOS Medicine reveals that using a nightly device to treat sleep apnea may also relieve depression symptoms. The authors conducted 19 trials with a CPAP device, three with MAD devices, and two with both devices. It was found that using either the CPAP device or the MAD device improved depression symptoms compared to no treatment. The study also suggests at least a partial link between sleep apnea and development of depression symptoms, although it has not yet been experimentally proven.
