James Underberg, MD, clinical assistant professor, NYU Langone Medical Center outlines the importance of measuring cholesterol levels and setting management goals. Atherogenic lipoproteins, the root cause of atherosclerosis, can be measured through: non-HDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B and LDL particle number. Using goals is essential because it can provide insight into how aggressive the treatment therapy needs to be, in addition to improving communication and patient adherence.
