Telescopic Contact Lens May Help Patients With Macular Degeneration

According to CNN Health, a new contact lens in development contains tiny mirrors that are able to magnify vision by almost three times. The hope is that light entering the eye would bounce off the mirrors and increase the users perception of an object or person. This comes particularly in handy for those with age-related macular degeneration for which few cures or treatment options exist. The lens would also come with an accompanying pair of glasses to allow the user to switch between magnified and regular vision. Due to the thickness and diameter of the lens, it contains air channels to allow for oxygen flow to the eye itself. Humans have tested the contact lens for comfort, and more trials for functionality are planned in the future.
