“Telemedicine Abortions” Made Illegal By Iowa Court

Planned Parenthood has lost their suit brought against the Iowa Board of Medicine, in a case that officially ended “telemedicine abortions,” where doctors could prescribe Mifeprex and misoprostol to women after a video-consultation and verification of their medical status. According to an article published by Bloomberg News, the court ruled in favor of the Iowa Board of Medicine not to reduce abortion frequency and accessibility, but because of a rule requiring physicians to be present and perform a physical examination before any kind of drug can be dispensed. Planned Parenthood plans to appeal to the Iowa Supreme Court.
