Tailoring Opioid Therapy

Russell K. Portenoy, MD, Chairman, Department of Pain Medicine & Palliative Care at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, reviews the skill sets that all physicians using long-term opioid therapy need – optimizing pharmacologic therapy and minimizing risks. Optimizing therapy involves selecting the right drug and route of administration and then individualizing the dose.
