Study Proves Efficacy of Statin Alternative

According to The New York Times, a study has found that Ezetimibe, a drug which prevents cholesterol absorption in the gut, can serve as an alternative to individuals who are intolerant or irresponsive to statins. Researchers looked at 18,000 individuals who suffered from myocardial infarction or angina, treating participants at random with statins or statin alternatives to lower levels of LDL cholesterol. Results of the study showed that both groups ended up with very low LDL levels, reducing cardiac events by 6.4 percent overall.
