Sleep Deprivation Could Steal Your Memories

According to CBS News, sleep deprivation and sleep disturbances may increase the risk for dementia in older men. A study published in Neurology analyzed brain autopsies from 167 elderly men who participated in a long-term study prior to death. Results of the study showed that 25 percent of the men with the lowest oxygen levels during sleep were roughly four times as likely to have cerebral microinfarcts compared to individuals in the study with the highest oxygen levels. Researchers also found that participants of the study who spent less time in slow-wave sleep tended to have more deterioration of the brain.
