Scientists Propose Humans Contain Multiple Genomes

The New York Times reports that scientists have found that humans may contain multiple genomes. Researchers claim that people “have groups of cells with mutations that are not found in the rest of the body. Some have genomes that came from other people.” The claims suggest that this “mosaic model” may contribute to several genetic diseases and is also posing problems to geneticists who now will have difficulty making conclusions about the entire human body based on one particular area.
