Richard Gallagher, MD, Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at New York Medical College and also a faculty member of the Columbia University Psychoanalytic Center, discusses best practices in treating schizophrenia. He describes the biopsychosocial model which states that the disorder has organic or genetic roots. He emphasizes the importance of treating schizophrenia with both pharmacotherapy and psychosocial treatment.
