Researchers Identify Specific Cell Death Pathways Triggered by Influenza A

Scientists have identified a protein known as DNA-dependent activator of interferon (DAI) to be the trigger for cell death when cells become infected with influenza A. Mice that lack the ability to create DAI were unable to initiate cell death in the presence of influenza virus. This research development may pave the way for new influenza treatments and present opportunities for better control of future pandemics.
