Renewed Effort to Control Cost of Cancer Treatment

According to CBS News, United Healthcare is launching a pilot program at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in which patients would be provided with a set amount for treatment coverage. Per-service payment has become controversial as it may entice doctors to prescribe unnecessary tests and treatments. Multiple package deals will be made available to the patients depending on services needed. The results of this program may lead to treatment bundles for other maladies as well.
