Playroom Peril: Toys Pose Increasing Risk to Children

According to CBS News, children’s toys are becoming increasingly dangerous, causing a visit to the emergency room every 3 minutes in the United States. A study published in Clinical Pediatrics looked at the risk of injury in children, finding that riding toys are responsible for 43 percent of hospital admissions in children under 18. The study also revealed that toy-related injuries jumped 61 percent between 1990 and 2001, contributing to a total of 3,278,073 children receiving treatment at U.S. emergency departments between 1990 and 2011.
