Physical Activity Just as Important for Health as Quitting Smoking

CBS News reports a study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine which found that just 30 minutes of exercise six days a week can yield a 40 percent lower risk of death for elderly males. Researchers found that the more time spent participating in a vigorous physical activity, the lower the risk of death from heart disease or any other cause. Ultimately, when looking at the data collected over more than three decades from more than 15,000 people, researchers concluded that 30 minutes of exercise, six days a week at any level of intensity was linked to a 40 percent reduction in death risk. The numbers suggest that as much attention is given to smoking cessation should also be given to increasing levels of physical activity for males as they age.
