Overdoses on Acetaminophen Kill 1,500 Americans

CNN reports on a report by ProPublica warning of the dangers of acetaminophen overdose. According to the report, “more than 1,500 Americans died” after taking the popular drug, “one of the nation’s most popular pain relievers.” While the drug is considered very safe in the recommended doses, it can cause extreme liver damage or even death when taken in doses higher than those recommended. CNN News warns that the margin for error is very small for this drug, and that even 4 pills over the recommended dose can cause harm. They also caution parents to carefully read instructions for giving acetominophen to their infants and children.
