Nuts May Be the Secret to Longevity

According to CBS News, a recent study has found that nut consumption may not just provide overall health benefits but may also protect against specific chronic diseases. The study from the International Journal of Epidemiology discovered that eating at least ten grams of nuts per day was linked to decreased mortality rates from respiratory or neurodegenerative diseases to cancer. Of over 100,000 participants observed over thirty years, researchers saw an average 23% percent decrease in mortality for any cause in those who consumed the minimum ten grams. There was no obvious benefit for those who consumed more than ten grams; additionally peanut butter was not found to have the same effects as raw nuts.
