Number of Americans With Diabetes Soars to 29 Million

The number of Americans with diabetes has increased to 29 million, a 3 million person increased since 2010, the CDC announced on Tuesday. Reuters reports that in addition to this 29 million, nearly 86 million are at high-risk for developing the disease. Experts say that in order to control these numbers we must “focus on preventing diabetes in the first place” by encouraging “healthy eating, weight-loss, and moderate exercise.” The CDC also explains that 1 in 4 diabetic patients are unaware of their condition and that early intervention and management of the disease is of utmost importance.
