New York Set to Legalize Medical Marijuana

An agreement legalizing medical marijuana in New York was passed on Thursday, allowing New Yorkers in need of the drug to benefit from its palliative qualities through various non-smoking applications, New York Times article reports. Patients with diseases such as AIDS, cancer, epilepsy, and a number of severe degenerative diseases would qualify for a prescription for the drug. A seven percent tax will be implemented on the sale of the medical marijuana, which will be grown in New York and dispensed by both businesses and nonprofits.
