New US Surgeon General Confirmed by Senate

The United States now has a Surgeon General for the first time since summer 2013. NPR’s The Two-Way blog reports that the US Senate has confirmed Dr. Vivek Murthy as the new Surgeon General. Many have opposed the nomination due to his political views and his young age (37). Murthy is an MD, MBA, a co-founder of Doctors for America, and a professor at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
