New Survey identifies Pain as a Major Cause of Sleep Issues

According to CBS News, a survey conducted by the National Sleep Foundation has found that chronic and acute pain affects half of the American population at some point in life, and is a common cause of sleep disorders. The survey found that people with chronic pain end up with a 42 minute sleep deficit every week, and acute pain sufferers end up with a 14 minute sleep deficit. While many people turn to pain medications as a source of relief, those medications actually alter the sleep cycles and shorten the amount of deep sleep a person gets.
