New “Smart Contacts” Offer Glucose Tracking, Visual Autofocus

Novartis and Google are teaming up to create the world’s first smart contact lenses, Reuters article reports. The devices will be designed to either assist diabetes patients in tracking blood glucose levels, or to offer vision refocusing, similar to an autofocus feature on a camera. For patients with diabetes, the technology will replace needles, measuring glucose through tears, and wirelessly transmitting the data to a smartphone.
