New Federal Program Penalizes Hospitals for Readmissions

A new article in The Boston Globe reports a new federal program under the Affordable Care Act that penalizes hospitals “whose patients are most likely to be readmitted within 30 days of treatment for pneumonia, heart failure, or heart attacks.” Hospitals looking to avoid the Medicare penalties are seeking new ways to follow up on patients and “redesigning the way they care for patients with the most complicated medical histories.”
