New Drug Successfully Lowers Triglyceride Levels

Reuters reports that Isis Pharmaceuticals Inc. has developed a drug that has been shown to reduce levels of triglycerides in the blood by up to 64%. The drug, codenamed ISIS-APOCIIIRx, “works by inhibiting a cell’s production of disease-causing protein.” A recent trial tested the drug in 26 patients with high blood fat levels and demonstrated that it increased levels of “good” cholesterol while lowering levels of “bad” cholesterol.
