Anna Ferrari, MD, Professor and Co-Director GU Research at NYU Langone Medical Center, discusses her experience with men who have been treated aggressively for low grade, low volume prostate cancer.

There has been an estimate that a large proportion of these men could have done just as well with active surveillance. There are ongoing studies looking at men with prostate cancer to determine whether active surveillance is a safe and appropriate option for men with a rising PSA, as opposed to immediate intervention.

Guidelines are evolving for men with these early stage prostate cancers to best determine therapy options. Molecular alterations in tumor samples may help to guide these treatment choices.
