Lifetime Cost of Autism Numbers $2.4 Million

Treating illnesses is expensive, but according to a recent study published in JAMA Pediatrics, autism treatment in the U.S. can cost as much as $2.4 million over the course of a patient’s lifetime. An article published by Bloomberg News reports that there are over 4 million people in the United States and the U.K. with autism, and that the national cost of supporting children with autism cost between $61 billion and $66 billion in the U.S., while lost employment raised the cost for supporting adults with autism to the staggering figure of $175 billion to $196 billion.
