Less Sitting Time May Improve Health in Type 2 Diabetics

According to Reuters, a study published in Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise found that people with Type 2 diabetes can improve metabolic health by simply replacing long sedentary periods with periodic standing, taking the stairs or changing the TV channel manually instead of using the remote. Essentially any sort of extra physical activity can improve diabetes and general health condition. With over 500 study subjects, researchers found that with minor interruptions in 30 minute blocks of inactivity, the weight and waist circumference of subjects went down slightly and decreased more as activity levels went up. The results demonstrate that even minor increases in physical activity are enough to improve patients’ health.
