Iron Deficiency During Pregnancy May Increase Risk for Autism

During pregnancy, vitamins and minerals are essential to healthy development of the baby, and now, a link between a mother’s iron intake and a baby’s autism has been made, Reuters article reports. According to a study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology, mothers of children with autism were less likely to remember taking iron supplements before and during pregnancy compared to other moms. Though additional research is required, experts conclude that most mothers simply aren’t getting enough iron in their diet.
