Injectable Drugs for Chronic Illnesses May Be Soon Available in Oral Capsule

Swiss drug makers at Novartis are collaborating with Rani Therapeutics to produce a biotech medicine capable of internally injecting medicines previously given by external injection, according to Reuters. The capsule, which is designed to be swallowed like standard oral medication, features small dissolvable needles that can penetrate the intestinal wall to deliver a drug. This technology would be particularly useful for injection based treatment of chronic illnesses like diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, or multiple sclerosis. Over the next two years, studies will be performed analyzing the success and efficacy of the capsule with specific medications.
