Increase in medical imaging tests, variations in those tests and radiation exposure across integrated health systems
The JAMA Report
Advanced medical imaging tests like CTs, MRIs and PET scans aid physicians in diagnosing many diseases earlier and more accurately. However, some of these tests result in radiation exposure for patients. A new study shows a large increase in the number of tests being performed, variation in where they are used and also variation in the amount of radiation exposure patients receive throughout several large integrated health care systems across the United States.
