Hepatitis C Patients Might Find Relief in Cheap Allergy Drug

According to an article in CBS Health, a widely available allergy remedy that costs about 50¢ a pill “has the potential to treat hepatitis C.” The drug, known scientifically as antihistamine chlorcyclizine HCI, has not yet been tested in human patients, but “research suggests that ‘the drug blocks the virus getting into cells and is different from the current hepatitis C drugs, which block viral replication,’” according to a co-author of the study.
