Health Officials Hopeful New Food Labels Will Reduce Obesity

Reuters reports on the proposed changes to nutrition labels that officials believe will help “reduce obesity and combat related diseases such as diabetes.” Calorie counts will be displayed more prominently and the amount of calories per serving will reflect portions that people typically consume. “The current nutritional information is based on a 2,000 calorie-a-day diet. The FDA said it has not yet established whether that figure will remain or be changed.”
