First Confirmed Case of Woman Contracting HIV from Another Woman During Sex

“The first confirmed case of a woman contracting HIV from another woman during sex was reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention this week,” according to the Los Angeles Times. The report states that “the two women involved were in a monogamous relationship for six months. At the start of their relationship one of the women was HIV-positive, the other was not.” Such HIV transmissions have been difficult to prove until now because in “nearly all the cases, other risk factors were present — including recent sexual contact with a man, intravenous drug use, tattooing, piercing or other potentially risky behaviors.”
