Federal Government Incorrectly Categorizing Medicaid Eligibility

USA Today reports that, in an unfortunate series of events, the federal health care exchange “is incorrectly determining that some people are eligible for Medicaid when they clearly are not.” When people look to enroll for insurance programs they are asked to put their income into a system which determines whether they are eligible for financial assistance or if they are eligible for Medicaid, in which case they are not able to obtain subsidies. With this new error in the system, people are falsely being told they qualify for Medicaid and, thus, they will likely miss the Dec. 23 deadline for enrollment approaches. The Department of Health and Human Services is advising those who receive false categorization to file an appeal with the federal marketplace.
