FDA Advisory Panel Now Recommends “Female Viagra”

According to CBS News, the FDA advisory panel has voted to recommend flibanserin, which is also being called, the “female viagra”. Sprout Pharmaceuticals, the developer of the drug, states that flibanserin is a non hormonal drug that acts as a 5HT1A agonist and 5HT2A antagonist and is classified as a Multifunctional Serotonin Agonist Antagonist.  During trials, it was reported that women taking the drug had .5 to 1 more sexually satisfying events per month, compared to women taking a placebo pill. However, the FDA is requiring Sprout to develop better safety guidelines for the drug to reduce the risk of side effects such as, fatigue, low blood pressure, and fainting, as the final vote for approval is expected in August.
