Join us for our Abstract Highlights – ADA Scientific Sessions 2011 – Effect of Glycemic Fluctuation on Diabetic Nephropathy.

Participants in the 2011 ADA Scientific Sessions discussed a study of the effect of glycemic fluctuation on diabetic nephropathy. While the study authors found that there was a relationship between mean glycemia and DN progression, they found no such association when they looked at measures of glycemic fluctuation including the mean amplitude of glycemic excursion.

The authors concluded that glycemic fluctuation has less association with DN progression than mean glucose levels. But they added that mean glucose levels account for only about 1 percent of variation in DN progression, suggesting that other variables play a role in early kidney damage among diabetics.
