Dry Eyes? Staring at Screens May Be the Cause of Your Discomfort

If you have dry, itchy eyes which can be remedied with blinking, you likely have dry eyes syndrome, says an article published by NPR’s Shots Blog. According to a study published in the British Journal of Ophthalmology, tiny glands in the eyelids called Melbomian glands squirt oil onto the eye when a person blinks. However, when preoccupied with phones, tablets, computers, and television sets, people often don’t blink, causing dryness of the eyes, and eventually, an increase in the acid content of tears.
