Diabetes Patients Consume Too Much Sodium, Care Too Litte

According to a Reuters article, diabetes patients are consuming too much sodium and pay little attention to it, despite its dangerous effects. In a study published in Appetite, a high salt diet is not a primary concern for diabetes patients, even though it is known to cause hypertension. The 143 person study revealed that only about a third knew that salt contains sodium, and roughly half believed that their health would improve if they lowered their salt intake. When asked what their biggest dietary concern was, however, just under half of participants listed sugar, with 76 listing either saturated fats or fat in general.
