The 2011 Society of Hospital Medicine Conference in Dallas, TX, opened today.

Dr. Daniel Dressler welcomed everybody to the conference and was followed by Dr, John Nelson, who discussed the remarkable data and insights form the 2011 hospitalist survey.

Attendees then had a choice of clinical updates to attend, with topics ranging from neurologic emergencies not to Miss, to perioperative controversies and atrial arrhythmia identification and management.

Later, AMA President, Dr. Cecil B. Wilson, delivered an address entitled: “A National Perspective for Hospitalists”.

Dr. Vineet Arora, Assistant Dean for Scholarship and Discovery at the Pritzker School of Medicine, of the University of Chicago, discusses further some of the issues discussed at Day 1 of the conference.
