Danger of Laundry Detergent Pods: Are Your Children at Risk?

According to Reuters, laundry detergent pods are responsible for more than 17,000 calls to poison control centers in 2012 and 2013, including over 700 hospitalizations. A study published in Pediatrics showed that 17,230 calls were made about children who were exposed to or swallowed the liquid in detergent pods. Experts are recommending that parents with young children avoid the pods and use traditional liquid detergent, while Tide said it will add a safety latch to protect children from exposure to the pod’s contents.
