Compound Found in Energy Drinks, Performance Supplements Banned by FDA

DMAA, dimethylamylamine, is used in supplements for weight loss, muscle building and performance enhancement, and an article on the FDA website warns that its use could lead to cardiovascular problems. The FDA is also trying to ensure that supplements containing the stimulant are no longer available for sale to consumers. “FDA has received 60 reports of illnesses and death associated with supplements containing DMAA … FDA has warned companies known to be using DMAA in dietary supplements that those products containing this ingredient are illegal.”
