Cologuard: The Answer to Your Colonoscopy Fears?

With many people avoiding their imminent colonoscopy, Cologuard, may be the non-invasive saving grace. According to CBS News, the new at-home test for colon cancer not only checks a stool sample sent by the patient for blood that may suggest a tumor, but also looks for DNA that could be related to cancer growth. Compared to an older stool blood test which has shown to detect colorectal cancer 74% of the time, Cologuard has a detection rate of 92%. The new test isn’t perfect, however; whereas the older test ruled out cancer 95% of the time, Cologuard has only ruled it out 87% of time, causing a number of unnecessary colonoscopies.
