Cholesterol Comeback: Government to Update Guidelines on Cholesterol Conusmption

According to CBS News, the USDA and US Department of Health and Human Services will soon update the recommended dietary guidelines on the consumption of cholesterol. For decades, people have been told to avoid eating foods high in cholesterol, and while LDL cholesterol in the blood is still considered a danger to cardiac health, experts have said that cholesterol is no longer a “nutrient of concern.” The updated guidelines are expected to reiterate the importance of eating more vegetables, fruits, and whole grains, while minimizing saturated fats, sugar and salt.
