A drink is
a bottle of beer that's 12 ounces
or 8 ounces of malt liquor
or 5 ounces of wine or
a shot of whiskey
or other distilled spirits.
There used to be a joke that
drinking too much meant
drinking more than your doctor.
Actually, drinking too much
has a real definition.
First, no binge drinking:
Binge drinking is more than 4
on occasion for men,
more than 3 on occasion for women.
An occasion is several hours
with friends or at an event
in one location.
The second problem drinking pattern
is drinking too much
over a period of time.
That means, on average,
more than 2 drinks a day for men or
more than 1 drink a day for a woman;
15 or more drinks per week for men,
8 or more drinks per week for women.
Third, drinking among people who should not drink;
pregnant women, kids and people who
are going to drive or operate heavy machinery.
