According to CBS News, a study published in the journal Computers in Human Behavior has found that checking email and reading while using a treadmill desk helps strengthen cognitive skills. The study subjects were told to check their emails periodically and to read a lengthy text. Half the group was sitting at regular desks while the others were at treadmill desks. Both groups were then hooked up to electroencephalogram machines to monitor brain activity while they were given a test to see what material they were able to recall. Those using treadmill desks were almost 35 percent more likely to answer the test questions correctly.
